Cargo Incident Report
Type: Deceased Dog Date of Incident: November 30, 2010 Location: Los Angeles, CA Routing: Honolulu, HI – Los Angeles, CA – Delta Flight 2364 AWB: 006-02354715 Description of Animal: English Bulldog apprx 2 yrs old, named Kila Kila Description of Incident: On Tuesday, November 30, 2010, Delta accepted an English bulldog, named “Kila Kila” for transport from Hawaii to California. Kila Kila traveled nonstop on DL flight 2364, which departed Honolulu at 1404 and arrived into Los Angeles at 2137. At the time of acceptance, the local temperature at Honolulu was 84F. Kila Kila was loaded onto the aircraft and all heating and ventilation systems were in working order. As agents were unloading the flight in Los Angeles, Kila Kila was discovered deceased inside his shipping container. Cause of the Incident: The VCA West Los Angeles Veterinary Hospital performed the necropsy. The pathologist comments that the cause of death “is believed to be cardiopulmonary failure.” The doctor also commented within the report that, “the death of this animal may have been acute; the heart changes are not and have been developing over the last few weeks to months.” Corrective Action Taken: Contacted our HNL Operational Leaders to advise this station improperly accepted the animal because the temperatures exceeded DL’s internal policy for snub-nosed breeds. Instructed HNL to review our shipping policies with every cargo agent and to hold them accountable when warranted.
