Carrier: SkyWest Airlines Flight Number: 4653 Date & Time of Incident: 09/23/2016 12:00 AM Type of Incident: Death Description of Animal: Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier Animal Name: Mercedes Description of Incident: Upon arrival into Cincinnati ramp personnel found female Staffordshire Terrier to be unresponsive and not breathing. Dog was taken to vet and was deceased. Cause of Incident: Necropsy revealed this brachycephalic dog with narrow airway reduced dog's airflow and everted saccules led to increased respiration and continually rising body heat. Cause of death was respiratory failure. Corrective Action Taken: None taken. There were no mechanical anomalies with the aircraft and no evidence to suggest that the airline's handling contributed to the animal's death.
