Animal Name: Oreo

Description of Incident: Two pet dogs, ‘Oreo’, a female Chihuahua mix, and ‘Benny’, a Jack Russell terrier mix were accepted for transport in Los Angeles, CA (LAX) for a direct flight to Memphis, TN (MEM). The dogs were accepted in apparent good health with all documentation present. Both were held in a climate controlled facility before the flight and subsequently transported to the aircraft in a climate controlled van. At time of loading, ‘Oreo’ was observed unresponsive and was dispatched to local medical care for evaluation. Local veterinary services in Los Angeles determined Oreo was deceased.

Cause of Incident: According to the Necropsy report, Oreo suffered from a pre-existing medical condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Corrective Action Taken: Pre-existing medical condition. No corrective action taken.
