Narrative Description: Description of the Incident: The animal was traveling with another family dog from Guam to Washington, D.C. This dog died at the animal quarantine station while on a layover in Honolulu.
Description of the Cause of the Incident: The family reported that this dog had health problems including diabetes, and they feared that he could not make such a long trip. Continental asked for a necropsy to be performed to determine the cause of death, and it concluded that, “…the dog had severe underlying disease consistent with diabetes, chronic heart disease which is compounded by the diabetes and periodontal disease. In addition there is evidence of pylonephritis and ketoacidosis.â€
Description of any corrective action taken: None. The death was not transit related. The animal died of a pre-existing condition.
